Since its founding 203 years ago, Harpers has been drawing hordes of hungry settlers in search of outstanding food, refreshing drink, and welcoming company. Once a carriage stop along the heavily traveled Philadelphia to Harrisburg route, this often-overlooked tavern, is today one of Lebanon country's best-kept secrets. The stately home's full brick front with dark shutters, towering trees and long cozy porches, provides a nostalgic peek at early America in 1804, the year Alexander Hamilton reached the pearly gates and Thomas Jefferson returned to the presidency. Horses still wander through scenic fields out back.If you choose to hitch your horse, or Honda, here, bring friends and they will no doubt continue to make this charming tavern a regular stop in their travels. We are located at the junction of old Route 22 and 934. Alternately, we are located a half-mile from Exit 85A off Route 81. The quaint homestead exudes warmth: the glowing chandeliers: the piled-high platters: the sepia photographs: the dual fireplaces and the remarkably friendly wait staff and fellow diners.
